The absolute trials and tribulations of building my girl CANDY.
I originally wanted to renovate a caravan because I loved living in share houses, but I also loved having my own styled room. I was tired of moving heavy vintage furniture from place to place, and I never felt like I could fully make a room my own; painting walls, styling properly, or creating the kind of space I actually wanted.
The idea was basically to create a bedroom on wheels.
Turns out, the caravan I got wasn’t very roadworthy and probably wasn’t going to make it very far. But once I started building her, I knew I was going to see it through regardless. I thought the renovation would take about a month, but it ended up taking closer to 11 months. In the end, it turned out better than I could’ve imagined. But it turns out good things take time.
Along the way I learnt a lot- making curtains, tiling, to using power tools, and all the fiddly bits in between. The whole process made me realise how much I love building and styling dreamy spaces and how i’m ACTUALLY bloody good at it .
I’ve also realised I don’t actually loooove sleeping in a caravan in cold Victoria, and that I really do love being in a house. So for now, Candy is being transported down to Melbourne on the back of a truck where I can rent her out as a studio space.
And I’m heading up to escape the cold, and already thinking about the next space I want to build.
